What is VASER Lipo?
VASER Lipo™ is an industry-leading scientifically proven technique that uses ultrasound energy to selectively target unwanted fat for smoother, more precise results with minimal downtime and no need for an overnight stay in a hospital. It is much more gentle than traditional liposuction and targets fat cells while leaving the surrounding tissues intact.
NON-INVASIVE LIPOSUCTION AND SKIN TIGHTENING WITH J PLASMA
Ultrasound technology used during VASER Lipo™ provides unique benefits when compared to traditional lipo. We often combine VASER Lipo with J-Plasma Renuvion to contract tissues, smooth the dimples of cellulite, and smooth and tighten your skin. The results we achieve with these two systems can significantly improve your body shape and skin quality.

Is VASER Lipo better than traditional lipo?
VASER Lipo is a revolutionary technique for removing unwanted fat from the body. Unlike traditional liposuction, VASER Liposuction removes fat cells with far less damage to surrounding tissue and skin.
The VASER technique has the added advantage of reducing the appearance of cellulite and decreases irregularities in skin texture – common problems with traditional liposuction.
VASER stands for “Vibration Amplification of Sound Energy at Resonance.” The VASER Lipo system emits ultrasonic frequency waves to break down and liquefy fat cells for easy extraction. It is a gentler and more precise system, allowing for custom body sculpting with exceptional results. At Nirvana Medical Aesthetics, we achieve exceptionally smooth, sculpted results for our patients with a much faster recovery time.

What can I expect after VASER Lipo?
In most cases, VASER Lipo treatments in Boston are outpatient procedures. You are free to return home soon after your procedure, driven by another adult. Pain medication is prescribed to help you stay comfortable after your procedure. In most cases, dressings can be removed the day after surgery and showering is permitted as soon as you are comfortable.
The abdomen is made up of the upper and lower tummy. Both areas can be treated with VASER Lipo in Boston at Nirvana Medical Aesthetics. To avoid visible scars, the incision sites are usually placed within the belly button or near the bikini line. In combination with the J-Plasma Renuvion treatment, VASER Lipo offers a more comprehensive improvement, tightening skin further.
Love handles are a common problem for both men and women. This is the area just above the hips where fatty deposits linger, leaving the dreaded “muffin top.” In this treatment, the incision site is strategically placed in the underwear zone. Removing excess fat in this area using the industry-leading VASER Liposuction procedure creates a much more attractive body contour – wear tight or low cut pants with confidence, without the need to hide the fat with loose clothing.
Both the inner and outer thighs can be successfully treated with liposuction to achieve more attractive, slender, and sculpted legs and thighs. VASER Lipo can remove excess fat from the inner thighs to improve comfort and eradicate problems with chafing. The outer thigh area, or “saddle bags” can also be significantly slimmed with body contouring in Boston for a more attractive figure.
Liposuction with VASER Lipo to reduce fat in the buttocks or a “banana roll” will improve your proportions for more attractive curves. Our liposuction procedure in Boston can also be performed in combination with a Brazilian Butt Lift, or J Plasma for added skin tightening. When the banana roll is removed (beneath the buttocks), your derrière will appear more sculpted, youthful, and attractive.
Excess fat on the upper arms can appear at any age – but is a common age-related problem. When the upper arms are flabby and loose, with excess fat, it is embarrassing and difficult to hide. VASER Lipo combined with J-Plasma Renuvion could be the ideal way to restore a youthful, firm look to the upper arms, removing fat and tightening the skin.
Women often develop fat on the back and around the bra line. It can be extremely difficult to shed this fat with diet and exercise alone. VASER Liposuction allows for precise and significant removal of back fat for smoother curves and better fitting clothes. In men, back liposuction can create a more desirable V-shaped physique.
Female breast reduction and lifting with VASER Liposuction is a safer and less invasive alternative to a surgical breast reduction. The advantage of breast reduction with liposuction is that it can provide relief for the pain and discomfort of overly large breasts, with far less downtime than traditional liposuction.
Excess chest fat is the cause of great anxiety for many men. The condition is often the result of overdeveloped fat glandular tissue. In some cases, “man boobs” is a genetic condition, while for other men, it is a side effect of medications or age-related. VASER Lipo is a precision technique that can resculpt the upper male chest to create a more masculine look.
Fatty deposits on the neck and jawline can develop with age, weight gain, or was inherited through your family line. The excess fat, along with skin laxity, results in hanging jowls and a sagging jawline. VASER Lipo is a safe and effective procedure to quickly extract double chin fat and restore youthful jawline definition.
HOW IS VASER LIPO PERFORMED?
VASER Lipo is performed by first applying a local anesthetic (numbing fluid) to the treatment area. Next, the VASER Liposuction system delivers custom ultrasound energy (not radiofrequency or laser) to effectively melt and liquefy the targeted fat cells.
After the fat cells are liquified and released from the tissues by the ultrasound waves, they are gently removed using suction through a small cannula. The procedure time varies based on how many areas are being treated. It can take as little as an hour or may require several hours.
After VASER Lipo™ body contouring in Boston, you will need to wear a special compression garment to help the skin contract and adjust your newly sculpted body area.
Everyone heals at a slightly different rate. You will be the best judge of when you are ready for certain activities. You can expect to return to your usual activities within two to three weeks after your treatment with VASER Lipo.

VASER Liposuction contraindications
Unhealthy individuals may be at a greater risk for developing complications. If you have any of the following conditions, you may not be a good candidate for VASER Lipo™:
- Cardiac arrhythmias
- Immunodeficiency disorders
- Excessive bleeding conditions
- Seizure disorders
- History of or pulmonary emboli (blood clots of the lungs) or deep vein thrombosis (blood clots of the legs)
Taking certain medications may increase your risk of bleeding. These include non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), aspirin, or anticoagulants such as Coumadin (warfarin). In these cases, VASER Liposuction is not a safe option.
Taking medications that impede the metabolism of lidocaine, the local anesthetic used during the procedure, can increase risk. We carefully evaluate your medical history and medications to ensure you are safe for this advanced treatment.
VASER Lipo does not treat obesity.
If you have large amounts of loose skin or very poor skin elasticity, you may not be a suitable candidate for this surgery.
Pregnant or breastfeeding women should not undergo body contouring in Boston.
What are the side effects of liposuction?
Although rare, liposuction is surgery and therefore carries the following risks: bleeding, infection, reaction to anesthesia, bumpy or uneven results, poor skin elasticity, and unusual healing.
VASER LIPO VS. OTHER LIPOSUCTION PROCEDURES
- Cavitation liposuction: Destroys fat cells by using ultrasound. This procedure, although non-surgical, requires multiple treatments and does not produce immediate results. VASER Lipo™ treatment gives noticeable results with one treatment and in a much shorter time frame.
- Water liposuction: Removes excess fat from the stomach, thighs, butt, hips, and arms. It’s sometimes combined with laser liposuction in a procedure called AquaLipo®. VASER Lipo, on the other hand, uses ultrasound energy to break up the fat. The key difference between water liposuction and VASER is that the latter offers skin-tightening benefits, so it’s especially beneficial if loss of elasticity is a concern.
- Laser liposuction: Minimally-invasive procedure that uses heat from fiber-optic lasers at various wavelengths to melt body fat. This is a different process than liposuction, which involves removing fat from the body using vacuum suction. In contrast, VASER Lipo™ is also referred to as HD lipo.
- Aqualipo® liposuction: A new liposuction procedure that uses a water-based fat removal system. Aqualipo® claims to provide excellent results with less bruising, swelling, and minimal patient downtime. Most plastic surgeons who have used both technologies agree that VASER Lipo™ provides superior results for patients.
- TruSculpt 3D: A nonsurgical body sculpting treatment that uses radiofrequency to reduce fat and tighten skin, primarily on the abdomen and flanks (love handles). It can also be used to minimize fat on the arms, neck, thighs, and back (along the bra line). The process is similar to CoolSculpting, which uses cool temperatures instead of heat to destroy fat cells. Results are inconsistent, take months to become apparent, and two to four treatments, spaced four weeks apart, are recommended.
- Tumescent liposuction: The most common liposuction technique used to remove pockets of excess fat via suction. The surgeon starts the procedure with injections of a wetting solution into the fatty layer of your skin before the fat is vacuumed out. The tumescent solution contains saltwater, adrenaline, and a local anesthetic. The adrenaline shrinks blood vessels to minimize blood loss, and the water makes it easier to remove the fat through the cannula. The biggest advantage of VASER Lipo™ is that it can be performed without general anesthetic, patients can return home the same day and it results in much less trauma to surrounding tissues.
- SmartLipo: A less invasive type of liposuction that uses laser energy to liquefy fat before the doctor suctions it out, resulting in less bruising and trauma to surrounding tissue. The precise nature of the laser makes it ideal for use on smaller, stubborn pockets of fat, like love handles, flabby upper arms, bra bulge, or double chin, though it can be used on all areas of the body. Fat that has been removed via SmartLipo cannot be transferred to plump up other areas of the body, like the breasts or butt (a Brazilian Butt Lift, fat transfer, or fat grafting) as it can be with VASER Lipo™ because the laser destroys the fat cells.
- Flank liposuction: A routine, minimally invasive outpatient procedure that removes fat around the sides and back of the waistline. It’s considered an option for male liposuction Boston to create a V-shape from shoulders to the waist that makes them appear slimmer and more fit. This procedure is limited to one area of the body, primarily the flanks.
- Cold laser liposuction: Pain-free, non-invasive device used for reducing fat by shining the emitted light (laser) over the skin. Multiple sessions are required and results can take months to become visible.
Liposuction FAQs
Liposuction is a surgical procedure that involves removing fatty bulges to achieve a smoother, slimmer body shape.
With surgical liposuction a small incision is made in the skin and a thin tube called a cannula is inserted into the treated area. The cannula and suction remove excess fat from the body. Some liposuction techniques incorporate other technologies such as tumescent solution, radiofrequency or ultrasound.
This will depend on the number and size of areas to be treated. Generally, a VASER lipo procedure takes between one and two hours.
Patients will see immediate results after VASER lipo, with more improvement as time passes and the body heals. Usually, patients see the final results three to four months after the procedure.
These results last for several years as the fat cells in the treatment area are permanently removed. A healthy lifestyle, regular exercise program, and maintaining an appropriate weight can help keep your body in the best shape possible.
Most patients need only one treatment; however, in some cases, additional sessions may be needed to achieve optimal results.
